Unveiling hibiscus

By Gordana Lakic, Mar 30, 2021

I have been drawn to this perfume by its advertising image — a bottle on the rock, near the beach, glazed by sunshine, and crisp of the sea in the background. Next to the bottle, a big red hibiscus flower, and here I am — days on the salty beach and nights on the island far away, or at least away from my back yard. I was already dreaming. Before I got a whiff of this scent I tried to revoke a hibiscus smell — there is not one. Flower is overpowered by its own appearance. All I could remember is a zesty taste of hibiscus tea on the cold night in downtown. Moved by my dream I was imagining salty breeze but instead I got citrus mandarin softened by jasmine, ylang-ylang and hibiscus, and warmed down by a touch of vanilla. Even though hibiscus doesn’t have significant scent the whole composition stays tangy exotic and lingers all the way into the night, which is, by the way, second picture of the marketing story. A perfect longing.
