Is summer here yet?

By Gordana Lakic, Jul 24, 2020

It's the end of July and I feel as if I’ve lost a calendar, a compass, or maybe I got lost altogether. My flights got canceled, I didn't take my suitcases out of storage, I won’t be getting jet-lagged or running through terminals at the airport, and I won’t even need a bathing suit. Is summer here yet?

In July it is imperative that I have to be near the sea. Yes, summer means vacation, and vacation for me means the Mediterranean or the Aegean coast. I found myself this time by the sea again, but this time gliding on the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It was peaceful, nature at its best. It took only a shift of mindset to be able to enjoy the sea, the view, and the persistence of cool air in my face. A different perspective yet the same calm feeling in the air. The little beaches that we were passing by weren’t inviting, you couldn't even come close to them—they were surrounded by boulders protruding from the water. The birds flocking the area were unaffected by the presence of sail boats, and remained occupied with their own livelihood.

All in all, a delightful afternoon off the California coast and the acceptance of the times we live in.
